FORTY CARROTS PARENTING PROGRAMS ON WHEELS 2007-2008 Outreach Locations
FORTY CARROTS PARENTING PROGRAMS ON WHEELS is Forty Carrots Family Center community outreach program. Many of the families served by Forty Carrots have specific challenges such as parental drug and alcohol addiction, teen parenthood, parental history of abuse, parental incarceration, homelessness, poverty, and limited education that compound the already complex job of raising children. Other families served face challenges such as substance abuse and domestic violence that cross all levels of socioeconomic status and educational background and leave children silently at-risk. And still families participate in Forty Carrots parenting classes because they are striving to be the best they can be.
The following is a list of agencies where Forty Carrots is currently providing regular parenting education classes for families with specific life challenges:
Character House - A level 4 & 5 residential Juvenile Detention Facility where we work with approximately 16 incarcerated pregnant teens and new teen mothers.
CYESIS - This teen pregnancy and parenting program is part of Sarasota County Public Schools. Mothers range in age from 12-18; their babies vary in age from newborn to 3 years.
First Step, Mothers and Infants Program - A residential program, with a minimum stay of six months, for pregnant women who are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol.. As babies are born, they are incorporated into the program for the remainder of their mother's stay.
First Step, Mothers and Infants Transitional Living Program - A 12-month residential program for women who gave birth within the past 12 months and have completed a substance abuse treatment program. Babies and one additional child five years of age or older may attend with each mother.
Forty Carrots Parenting Basics - This is a donation/grant-supported series that utilizes a nationally recognized basic parenting education program for parents with very limited skills. It targets parents with at-risk children under the age of five, and is advertised through local mental health agencies, family therapists, Sarasota County Health Department, Sarasota Judicial System, and other professional networks.
